The body of the AT&T phone, or the base station, is connected to the telephone network through a cord. The phone base serves as the charging station for the handset's batteries, which are meant to power the handset without being plugged into the station. Different frequency bands are used for different models. They're measured in GHz, which is the frequency of connection between the handset and the main station. The individual GHz frequency is meant to minimize instances of eavesdropping.
